Board of Director's Job Description 

 

 

Purpose:  To support the work of Friends of Children and Families, Inc. To provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. The Governing Board’s role is to oversee and provide guidance to the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Maintain residence within the state of Idaho

  • Understand and adhere to the By-laws as set forth

  •  Agree to fulfill the responsibilities outlined below
     

Board Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in Board of Directors Orientation and Training.

  2. Attend all board meetings or if unable to attend, give notice and proxy vote to another board member.

  3. Make a time commitment for one, 3-hour board meeting a month; as well as another possible 2-hour committee meeting each month as needed.

  4. Prepare in advance for scheduled meetings by reviewing agendas, minutes, consent items and other relevant information.

  5. Participate in appropriate decision-making processes as a voting member as described in the Head Start Performance Standards and the Head Start Act.

  6. Serve on committees by volunteering or being appointed.

  7. Attend and participate in committee meetings.

  8. Assist the Board President and the Executive Director in the recruitment of new board members who will enhance board diversity and inclusion as well as increase expertise among the board.

  9. Annually review the performance of the Board and create an action plan to revise or improve its performance.

  10. Support and participate in all fund-raising activities and events through donations of time, materials, and/ or money.

  11. Assist in the recruitment of volunteer services from parents, community members and organizations.

  12. Adhere to all the By-laws of Friends of Children and Families Inc.

  13. Respect the confidential nature of the work of the Board of Directors and the information shared to ensure the protection of privacy and confidentiality for board members, members of the Policy Council, children, families, and staff.

  14. Represent FOCAF to stakeholders and act as an ambassador for the organization.

Goal 1: The program will create more innovative and efficient systems that ensure safe and healthy environments and enhance positive outcomes for children, families, and staff.

Goal 2: The program will promote Early Childhood Education by delivering high quality services, leveraging partnerships, and increasing public awareness to positively influence children, families, and the community. 

​

Goal 3: The program will enrich the professional development system by providing training and support to staff, enabling them to acquire and enhance the skills necessary to foster school readiness.
