Summer learning kits

Summer learning loss has been well documented over many years. Students can lose both factual and procedural knowledge over the summer break. So unless children keep their brains stimulated and engaged they will often suffer from "brain drain" or the "summer slide". One way to prevent this is to provide children and their families with creative, exciting learning games and activities that will encourage them to continue to use the knowledge and skills they gained over the past year.

These activities are geared to inspire and motivate families to spend some time each day to play, practice, and learn while having fun.

You can help out in four different ways:

1. Buy and donate items for the learning kits

2. Contribute money to purchase supplies for the kits

3. Ask businesses for donations of materials for the kits

4. Help assemble the kits by cutting, pasting, laminating, and organizing the materials.

Where can I purchase kit supplies?

Most items can be purchased at Dollar Tree or any office supply store. Items can be purchased in bulk from dollartree.com and shipped for free to your closest neighborhood Dollar Tree. Here is a list of the items that will be included in each learning kit.

The materials listed here will be supplemented with other items and learning activities which include: a summer calendar with activities to do each day, a number line, 2 game boards (with pre-reading and pre-math activities), a plain paper notebook (no lines) for writing, game pieces, art recipes and ideas, and a list of useful websites for activities.

How to donate supplies or donations
